peniscola castle , also called Castillo  del Papa Luna is located in the highest part of the rock overlooking  ,the city, reaching a height of 64 m above sea level

Peniscola Castle was built by the Templars between 1294 and 1307

-Finally Philip II ordered the construction of new artillery defenses in order to protect it from attacks
